Ando Hiroshige Collection

Ando Hiroshige was a Japanese artist who is best known for his landscape prints. He was born in Edo (now Tokyo) in 1797 and began his career as an apprentice to the renowned ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Toyohiro. Hiroshige's work often depicted scenes of everyday life, such as travelers on roads or boats, and he also produced many landscape prints of Japan's countryside. His works are highly acclaimed for their use of perspective, light and shadow, and color to create a sense of depth and atmosphere. His most famous series is The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road which consists of 55 woodblock prints depicting the journey between Tokyo and Kyoto along the Tokaido Road.
