A view from the rear of the BBMFs Avro Lancaster Thumper Mk III

A view from the rear of the BBMFs Avro Lancaster Thumper Mk III.
The Lancaster is the most famous and successful RAF heavy Bomber of World War Two. It is a legend that lives on today and the contribution made by the aircraft and its crews to the freedom of our nation will, hopefully, never be forgotten. An impressive 7, 377 Lancaster were built between 1941 and early 1946. Of these, some 3, 500 were lost on operations.
The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (RAF-BBMF) is administratively part of the Royal Air Force No 1 Group and operates from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. They have Spitfires, Hurricanes, a Lancaster and Dakota as well as Chipmunks in the flight.
The aircraft are regularly seen at events commemorating World War II, upon British State occasions, notably the Trooping the Colour celebrating Queen Elizabeth IIs birthday and at air displays throughout the United Kingdom and Europe

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Avro Lancaster Thumper Mk III from the rear, belonging to the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (RAF-BBMF). As the most renowned and successful RAF heavy bomber of World War Two, the Lancaster holds a legendary status that continues to inspire awe today. Its significant contribution to our nation's freedom will forever be etched in history. With an astonishing 7,377 Lancasters built between 1941 and early 1946, it is a testament to their importance during wartime operations. Sadly, approximately half of these remarkable aircraft were lost in action, totaling around 3,500. The RAF-BBMF operates from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire as part of the Royal Air Force No 1 Group. Alongside Spitfires, Hurricanes, Dakotas, and Chipmunks within their flight fleet; this Lancaster stands as a symbol of remembrance for World War II events and British State occasions such as Trooping the Colour - an annual celebration honoring Queen Elizabeth II's birthday. Whether soaring through European skies or gracing air displays across the United Kingdom and Europe; these historic aircraft evoke emotions of pride and admiration wherever they are seen. This particular image captures not only the majestic tail section but also highlights its gun turret – a reminder of both its defensive capabilities and its role in protecting countless lives during perilous missions. Photographed by Cpl Phil Major RAF from Armed Forces magazine, this print serves as a poignant tribute to those who served bravely aboard these magnificent warbirds.
