Ramming into the Rumble - A Wild Encounter in Colorado!

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print by John Cancalosi, we witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of a Bighorn Sheep Ram in rut. With a record-breaking spread of horns measuring an astonishing 33 inches, this male is truly a force to be reckoned with! While females sport shorter straight horns, both genders share an insatiable appetite for browsing and grazing on a diverse array of plants. These magnificent creatures call the rugged mountain slopes home, favoring areas with sparse tree cover and challenging terrain. Gregarious by nature, Bighorn Sheep typically separate during summer months but come together as fall arrives. It's during this time that rams join ewes and lambs to prepare for their thrilling rutting season in November and December. To establish dominance over breeding females, males engage in head-butting battles that determine their place within the hierarchy. The sheer power behind these clashes is enough to leave anyone breathless! Found across western North America from Baja California to western Canada, these wild sheep are true icons of our continent's untamed beauty. So next time you find yourself exploring the great outdoors, keep your eyes peeled for these majestic creatures - they're sure to make your heart skip a beat!
