Eubalaena australis
Each season a few white calves are born in the population that breeds off the Valdes Peninsula. Similar youngsters are also born among the southern right whales that breed off Australia. They are mostly white, with a sprinkling of black spots and dark areas. English-speaking people affectionately call them little Dalmatians of the Sea. In Argentina, they become refered to as "el Blanquito", the little white one.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Southern Right Whale: A Mother's Love This breathtaking photograph captures the tender moment between a Southern Right Whale mother and her newborn white calf off the coast of Puerto Piramide, Valdes Peninsula, in Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina. Each season, a few white calves are born in this population, mirroring the same phenomenon among the southern right whales that breed off the coast of Australia. The youngster, mostly white with a sprinkling of black spots and dark areas, is a sight to behold. English-speaking people affectionately refer to these calves as "little Dalmatians of the Sea," while in Argentina, they are known as "el Blanquito," the little white one. Southern Right Whales are the largest of the baleen whales, reaching lengths of up to 50 feet (15 meters) and weights of up to 120 tons (109 metric tonnes). They are named for their preference for being the "right" whale to hunt, as they float when beached, swim slowly, and are rich in oil and baleen. This photograph, taken by renowned wildlife photographer Francois Gohier, is a testament to the beauty and wonder of the natural world. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving these magnificent creatures and their habitats for future generations to enjoy.
