off Puerto Piramide, Valdes Peninsula, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina
Eubalaena australis
Each season a few white calves are born in the population that breeds off the Valdes Peninsula. Similar youngsters are also born among the southern right whales that breed off Australia. They are mostly white, with a sprinkling of black spots and dark areas. English-speaking people affectionately call them little Dalmatians of the Sea. In Argentina, they become refered to as "el Blanquito", the little white one.
