Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage - Zambia - Africa
Pan troglodytes
Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage is recognised as the worlds largest dedicated sanctuary for orphaned chimps. As chimpanzees are not indigenous to Zambia it is not possible to free-release them locally, therefore 2, 000 acres of forest land has been designated to the chimps.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking print captures the intense and aggressive expression of a chimpanzee, with its mouth open in a display of dominance. The close-up shot allows us to see every detail of the chimp's face, from its furrowed brow to its bared teeth. This powerful image was taken at Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage in Zambia, Africa - home to the world's largest sanctuary for orphaned chimps. Chimpanzees are not native to Zambia, so these rescued animals cannot be released back into the wild locally. Instead, they have been given 2,000 acres of forest land within the reserve to roam freely and live out their days in peace. The dedication and care provided by Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage is evident in this photograph, as we witness the raw emotion and intensity that these incredible creatures possess. Photographer M. Watson has expertly captured this moment of aggression and tension in nature, reminding us of the importance of conservation efforts for endangered species like chimpanzees. This print serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve wildlife around the world.
