Gharials Collection

Gharials are a species of crocodilian reptiles that are native to India and Nepal, and are one of the most endangered species in the world, with only an estimated 1,500 left in the wild. They have long snouts and sharp teeth, which they use to catch fish and can grow up to 6 meters in length and weigh up to 200 kg. Gharials usually inhabit rivers and streams with slow-moving water, where they can find plenty of food. They spend most of their time basking on sandbanks or rocks near water sources. Unfortunately, due to habitat destruction, overfishing and poaching for their skins, gharial populations have declined drastically over the years. Conservation efforts such as captive breeding programs have been implemented in order to help protect this species from extinction.
