Cave Myotis Collection

Cave Myotis (Myotis velifer) is a species of bat belonging to the Vespertilionidae family of mammals, and are found in the western United States and Mexico, typically inhabiting caves and other dark, sheltered areas. They have a wingspan of up to 11 inches and weigh between 0.2 and 0.4 ounces, and are light brown in color with white fur on their undersides, ears, and faces. Their diet consists mainly of insects such as moths, beetles, flies, wasps, ants, grasshoppers and cicadas which they catch while flying at night using echolocation to navigate their environment. They hibernate during the winter months but can be active year-round depending on food availability or temperature changes in their environment and can important pollinators for many plants as well as predators that help control insect populations in agricultural areas making them an important part of local ecosystems
