Ferruginea Collection

Ferruginea are small mammals belonging to the Tupaiidae family, and are found in Southeast Asia, and have a wide range of habitats, from tropical rainforests to dry savannas. They have a distinctive reddish-brown fur with white stripes on their back and sides, and long tails that can be used for balance when they climb trees and can omnivores, eating both plants and insects. They use their sharp claws to dig up roots and tubers as well as catch insects like grasshoppers or beetles. It also use their long tails for communication with other members of their species by twitching them in different ways. These animals are active during the day but become inactive at night, sleeping in tree hollows or abandoned nests of birds or other animals. Their population is declining due to deforestation and hunting for food or fur; however conservation efforts are underway to protect these unique animals from extinction.
