Princeps Collection

Princeps is a genus of sciuridae mammals, commonly known as ground squirrels, and are found in western North America and parts of Central America. They have a long, bushy tail and large ears that help them detect predators. They live in burrows, which they dig with their powerful claws and teeth. Princeps feed on seeds, nuts, insects, fruits and other vegetation, and are diurnal animals that spend most of the day foraging for food or sunning themselves to keep warm. In the wild they can live up to seven years but in captivity they can live up to ten years or more and can important seed dispersers in their habitats and also provide food for predators such as hawks and owls.
