South American Coati Collection

The South American Coati is a species of mammal found in the tropical forests of Central and South America, and are related to raccoons and have a long, slender body with a pointed snout and short legs. The fur is usually grayish-brown or reddish-brown in color with white markings on the face, neck, chest, and belly, and are omnivorous animals that feed on fruits, insects, small vertebrates such as lizards and frogs, eggs, carrion, and sometimes even small mammals. Coatis live in groups of up to 30 individuals led by an alpha female who makes all the decisions for the group, and are active during both day and night but prefer to hunt at night when they can use their excellent sense of smell to find food. These animals are also very social creatures that communicate through vocalizations such as barks or whistles when they encounter danger or other members of their group.
