Torquatus is a genus of pitheciid mammals in the family Pitheciidae, and are found in South America, primarily in the Amazon Basin and adjacent areas, and are arboreal primates that live in small groups and feed on fruits, leaves, insects, and other small animals. They have long prehensile tails which they use to hang from branches while foraging for food or resting. Their fur is grayish-brown with white patches on their face and chest. They have large eyes which help them see better at night when they are most active. It also has a unique vocalization that consists of loud barks or hoots that can be heard up to 1 km away during the night time hours. This species is currently listed as vulnerable due to habitat destruction and hunting pressure from humans.
