Isabela Collection

Isabela (Pitheciidae) is a genus of mammals in the family Pitheciidae. It includes five species of primates, including the white-faced saki, black-headed uacari, moustached tamarin, red-backed bearded saki and bald uacari. These animals are found in tropical forests from northern South America to southern Central America. They have long bodies with short limbs and tails that can be used for balance when climbing trees. They feed on fruits, leaves, insects and small vertebrates such as lizards and frogs. Isabela primates are highly social animals that live in groups of up to 20 individuals consisting of one or two breeding pairs and their offspring. They use vocalizations to communicate with each other and defend their territory against intruders. Their conservation status is vulnerable due to habitat destruction caused by human activities such as logging and mining.
