Grey Seal Collection

Grey seals (Phocidae) are a species of mammal found in the northern Atlantic Ocean and Baltic Sea, and are one of the largest seal species, reaching lengths up to 2.7 meters and weighing up to 300 kilograms. Grey seals have a thick fur coat that is grey-brown in color with lighter patches on their bellies, giving them their name. They have large eyes and long whiskers used for sensing prey in murky waters. Grey seals feed mainly on fish, squid, and crustaceans which they catch by diving deep underwater for several minutes at a time. Breeding takes place during the winter months when males will establish territories along coastal areas to mate with females who give birth to one pup per year after an 11 month gestation period. Pups are born white with black spots which will eventually fade as they mature into adults within 3 years of age and can live up to 40 years old in the wild making them an important part of ocean ecosystems around the world.
