Numbat Collection

The Numbat (Myrmecobiidae) is a small mammal native to Australia, and is the only species of its family and is also known as the Banded Anteater, and are about 30 cm long, with a bushy tail and reddish-brown fur. The Numbat has four toes on each front foot and five on each hind foot, which it uses to dig for termites in the soil. Its diet consists mainly of termites, but it will also eat ants, beetles and other small insects, and is an endangered species due to habitat loss from land clearing for agriculture and predation by foxes and cats. Conservation efforts have been successful in increasing their numbers in some areas of Australia, but they remain vulnerable to extinction if their habitats are not protected.
