North American River Otter Collection

The North American river otter is a member of the Mustelidae family of mammals, and is native to much of North America, including parts of Canada, the United States and Mexico. The river otter has a long, slender body with short legs and webbed feet that help it swim quickly in water. Its thick fur helps keep it warm in cold temperatures and its waterproof coat helps it stay dry while swimming. River otters are carnivorous animals that feed on fish, crayfish, frogs, snakes and other small aquatic animals. They live in burrows along rivers or streams where they can find food easily, and are social animals that live in groups called rafts which can contain up to 15 individuals. River otters are playful creatures that enjoy sliding down muddy banks or playing catch with stones or sticks they find near their burrows. They also use their vocalizations to communicate with each other when playing or hunting for food together as a group.
