Canescens is a species of Mustelidae, a family of mammals that includes weasels, ferrets, badgers and otters, and are found in North America and parts of Central America and can small animals with long bodies and short legs. They have thick fur which is usually gray or brown in color with white markings on their faces and bellies. Their diet consists mainly of small rodents, insects, eggs and fruits, and are active during the day but can also be seen at night when they hunt for food and can solitary animals but will form temporary social groups when they come together to feed or mate. They live in burrows dug into the ground where they sleep during the day and emerge at night to hunt for food.
