Pusillus Collection

Pusillus is a genus of mormoopid mammals in the family Mormoopidae, and is found in Central and South America, from Mexico to Peru. The genus consists of two species: Pusillus mexicanus and Pusillus peruvianus, and are small bats, with a body length of up to 4 cm (1.6 inches). Their fur is grayish-brown or reddish-brown in color, with white tips on the hairs. They have long ears and large eyes that give them excellent vision at night. Their diet consists mainly of insects, but they also eat fruit and nectar from flowers. They roost in caves or hollow trees during the day, emerging at night to hunt for food. These bats are important pollinators for many plants in their range, helping to spread seeds and increase biodiversity throughout their habitats.
