Mongoose is a small mammal native to Africa, southern Asia, and some islands in the Indian Ocean, and are known for their long bodies and bushy tails and can carnivores, meaning they feed on small animals such as rodents, lizards, snakes and insects. They have sharp claws and teeth which help them catch their prey. It also have excellent hearing and smell which helps them detect potential predators or food sources. In addition to being carnivores they are also opportunistic scavengers who will eat whatever is available in their environment including fruits, berries, eggs and carrion. Mongoose live in burrows or dens that they dig themselves or occupy abandoned ones from other animals such as foxes or badgers and can be found living alone or with a group of up to 20 individuals depending on the species of mongoose.
