Arenarius Collection

Arenarius is a genus of small, insectivorous mammals belonging to the family Miniopteridae, and are found in Africa, Europe and Asia, living in forests and woodlands. Arenarius species are small bats with long ears, a short snout and large eyes. Their fur is usually grey or brown in color with white patches on their bellies. They feed mainly on insects such as moths and beetles which they capture using echolocation. They roost in caves or crevices during the day and emerge at night to hunt for food. These bats can live up to 10 years in the wild and have a slow reproductive rate due to their low fertility rates. Arenarius species play an important role in controlling insect populations which helps maintain ecological balance within their habitats.
