Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby Collection

The Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby (Macropodidae) is a species of mammal native to Australia, and is a medium-sized wallaby, with an adult size ranging from 50–70 cm in length and weighing up to 8 kg. The fur is greyish-brown, with yellow feet and a white stripe on the chest. They inhabit rocky outcrops and cliffs in arid areas of central Australia, where they feed on grasses, herbs and shrubs, and are social animals that live in groups of up to 30 individuals, led by an alpha male. Breeding occurs throughout the year with one young born after a gestation period of 30 days. The young are weaned at around 6 months old but remain dependent upon their mother for protection until they reach maturity at 18 months old. Threats to this species include habitat loss due to human activities such as grazing and mining as well as predation by feral cats and foxes. Conservation efforts have been put into place in order to protect this species from extinction including captive breeding programs, habitat restoration projects and predator control measures.
