Bernardus Collection

Bernardus, or Macropodidae, are a family of mammals native to Australia and New Guinea, and are commonly referred to as kangaroos, wallabies, pademelons and bettongs. These animals have long hind legs that allow them to hop quickly over large distances. They also have powerful tails for balance when hopping and for support when standing upright. Their diet consists mainly of grasses and leaves but they will also eat insects, fruits and flowers, and are be found in a variety of habitats including woodlands, grasslands, wetlands and even urban areas, and are social animals that live in groups called mobs or troops which can consist of up to 50 individuals. The males are larger than the females with males being able to reach heights up to 2 meters tall while females reach heights of 1 meter tall on average. An important species in the Australian ecosystem as they help disperse seeds from plants they feed on which helps promote biodiversity in the area.
