European Hare Collection

The European Hare (Lepus europaeus) is a species of hare native to Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia, and is a medium-sized mammal, with an average length of 40-60 cm and weighing 2-4 kg. Its fur is typically brown in color with white underparts, although some individuals may have black or gray fur. The European Hare has long ears and hind legs which enable it to move quickly over short distances. Its diet consists mainly of grasses, herbs, bark and buds as well as some insects. It lives in open areas such as fields or meadows where it can find food easily. During the winter months the European Hare will often burrow underground to keep warm and safe from predators such as foxes or wolves. The species is considered vulnerable due to habitat destruction caused by human activities such as agriculture and urbanization. Conservation efforts are being made in order to protect this species from further decline in numbers.
