Arctic Hare Collection

The Arctic Hare (Lepus arcticus) is a species of hare found in the Arctic tundra and subarctic regions of North America, Europe, and Asia, and are well adapted to the cold climate with their thick fur coat which can be white or blue-gray in color. The Arctic Hare has long ears and hind legs which allow them to move quickly across the snow. They feed on grasses, sedges, mosses, lichens, buds and twigs of shrubs and trees as well as carrion. In summer they may also eat insects such as mosquitoes. The Arctic Hare is an important prey species for many predators including foxes, wolves, owls and eagles. Females give birth to litters of up to eight young after a gestation period of about 50 days. These animals live solitary lives except during mating season when they form small groups known as "warrens", and are active year round but may hibernate during extreme cold weather conditions in winter months.
