Brown Lemur Collection

The Brown Lemur (Lemuridae) is a species of primate native to Madagascar, and are medium-sized primates, with males weighing up to 4.5 kg and females up to 3.5 kg. They have a brownish-gray fur and large eyes, which helps them see in the dark. Their diet consists mainly of fruits, leaves, flowers and insects. They live in groups of up to 30 individuals and communicate with each other through vocalizations such as screams and barks, and are active during the day but sleep at night in trees or on branches close to the ground for protection from predators such as hawks or eagles. The population of these animals is decreasing due to deforestation, hunting and capture for use as pets or zoo animals; however they can listed as “Near Threatened” by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to conservation efforts that have been put into place over recent years.
