Atrox Collection

Atrox, also known as the greater roundleaf bat, is a species of Hipposideridae mammal found in Southeast Asia, and is one of the largest members of its family, with a wingspan up to 40 cm and weighing up to 60 g. Its fur is usually dark brown or black on its back and lighter on its underside and has large ears that are rounded at the tips and a long snout with a distinctive tragus. Atrox feeds mainly on insects such as beetles, moths, flies and mosquitoes which it catches in flight using echolocation. During the day it roosts in caves or tree hollows and at night it emerges to hunt for food. It plays an important role in controlling insect populations which can be beneficial to humans by reducing crop damage caused by pests.
