Jungle Cat (Felis chaus) is a small wild cat species native to the Middle East, Central and South Asia and has a short coat that ranges in color from yellowish-brown to grayish-brown with black stripes and spots. Its ears are tufted and its tail is long and bushy, and are solitary animals that live in dense vegetation near water sources such as rivers, streams, lakes, marshes, swamps or wetlands. They feed on small mammals such as rodents, birds and reptiles as well as fish, and are active during the day but may also hunt at night when prey is more abundant. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the jungle cat as Least Concern due to its wide distribution range across much of Asia and Africa.
