Gui±a Collection

Guiña (Felis guigna) is a small wild cat native to South America, and is the only species of its genus and is found in the temperate forests of Chile and Argentina. Guiñas are solitary animals, with males and females living separately except during mating season, and are nocturnal hunters, preying on small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and fruit. Guiñas have a thick fur coat that ranges from light brown to dark grey in color with black spots or stripes along their sides. They have long legs for jumping and climbing trees as well as sharp claws for catching prey. Guiñas also possess excellent hearing which helps them detect potential prey even in dense vegetation or at night when visibility is low. The species has been classified as 'Near Threatened' due to habitat loss caused by deforestation but conservation efforts are underway to protect it from extinction.
