Fossa Collection

Fossa are a species of carnivorous mammal native to Madagascar, and are the largest mammalian carnivore on the island and can reach up to 6 feet in length and weigh up to 25 pounds. Fossas have long, slim bodies with short legs and a long tail that they use for balance when climbing trees. They have retractable claws, sharp teeth, and powerful jaws which they use to hunt small animals such as rodents, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Fossas live in both rainforests and dry deciduous forests but prefer areas with dense vegetation where they can hide from predators, and are solitary animals who spend most of their time alone or in pairs during mating season. Fossas play an important role in their ecosystem by controlling populations of smaller prey animals which helps maintain balance within the environment.
