Gray Whale Collection

Gray whales (Eschrichtiidae) are mammals belonging to the baleen whale suborder, and are found in coastal waters of the North Pacific Ocean and can reach lengths of up to 15 meters and weights of up to 40 tons. Gray whales have a mottled gray coloration, with white patches on their underside. They feed mainly on small crustaceans such as amphipods and krill, which they filter from the water using their baleen plates. Gray whales migrate annually between summer feeding grounds in Arctic waters and winter breeding grounds off the coast of Mexico and California and are known for their acrobatic behavior, often breaching out of the water or slapping their tails against it. The species is currently listed as endangered due to whaling activities in past centuries, but conservation efforts have helped bring populations back from near extinction levels.
