Coypu Collection

Coypu (Echimyidae) are a species of large, semi-aquatic rodents found in South America. They have thick fur and webbed feet, which make them well-suited to life in the water, and are herbivores and feed on aquatic plants, grasses, fruits, and roots and can grow up to two feet long and weigh up to nine pounds. They live in burrows near bodies of water such as rivers or lakes and can be active both day and night, and are social animals that live in groups of up to 20 individuals. They communicate with each other through vocalizations such as whistles or chirps. Unfortunately, coypus have been hunted for their fur since the early 1900s which has caused their population numbers to decline significantly over time. Conservation efforts have been put into place in some areas but more work needs to be done if we want these unique animals around for future generations.
