Long-finned Pilot Whale Collection

The Long-finned Pilot Whale (Globicephala melas) is a species of cetacean mammal belonging to the Delphinidae family, and is found in deep waters of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean Sea, robust body with a short, thick beak and long pectoral fins. Its head is dark grey or black while its back and sides are lighter grey or brownish-grey. Males can reach up to 6 metres in length while females are usually smaller at around 4 metres. They feed mainly on squid but also eat fish, octopus and other cephalopods. They live in groups of up to 50 individuals which communicate using clicks, whistles and other vocalizations. The Long-finned Pilot Whale is listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN Red List due to lack of data on population size and trends.
