Temminckii Collection

Temminckii is a species of Cercopithecidae, a family of Old World monkeys, and are found in the tropical forests of Africa and Asia, and are typically arboreal animals. They have long tails that they use for balance when moving through the trees. Their fur is usually grey or brown with lighter patches on their faces and chests. They have large eyes, which helps them to see in low light conditions. Temminckii feed mainly on fruits, nuts, leaves and insects but will also eat small vertebrates such as lizards or birds if available. They live in groups of up to 30 individuals with a dominant male leading the group while females take care of the young ones. These primates are highly social animals that communicate using facial expressions, vocalizations and body language. As human populations expand into their habitats, these primates face threats from habitat destruction as well as hunting for bushmeat or pet trade purposes. Conservation efforts must be made to ensure their survival in the wild for future generations to enjoy them.
