Bonnet Macaque Collection

The Bonnet Macaque (Macaca radiata) is a species of Cercopithecidae mammal, native to India and Sri Lanka, and is a medium-sized primate with a body length of about 40 cm and tail length of up to 60 cm. Its fur is typically brownish-gray in color, with lighter patches on the face, hands and feet. The Bonnet Macaque has an omnivorous diet consisting mainly of fruits, leaves, flowers, insects and small vertebrates, and are social animals that live in groups ranging from 10 to 50 individuals and are known for their intelligence; they can use tools to solve problems and have been observed engaging in play behavior such as chasing each other or playing tag. The Bonnet Macaque is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to habitat loss caused by deforestation and urbanization. Conservation efforts are needed in order to protect this species from further decline.
