Impala Collection

Impala (Aepyceros melampus) are bovid mammals native to eastern and southern Africa, and are one of the most common and recognizable antelopes in Africa, with a reddish-brown coat, white underbelly, and black stripes on their hindquarters. Impalas inhabit savannas, woodlands, grasslands, and floodplains, and are highly social animals that live in herds of up to several hundred individuals. Impalas have an impressive leaping ability; they can jump up to 10 feet high and 30 feet long. Males compete for dominance during the breeding season by engaging in ritualized fights known as "lekking". Females give birth to a single calf after a gestation period of six months. Impalas feed mainly on grasses but also eat leaves, shoots, fruits, flowers and bark when available, and are preyed upon by lions, leopards and hyenas but can escape predators with their incredible speed and agility.
