Chamois (Bovidae Mammalia) are a species of goat-antelope found in mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. They have a stocky body, short legs, and a thick coat that is typically reddish-brown with white patches on the face, neck, and chest. The males are larger than the females and have horns that can grow up to 30 cm long and can agile climbers who use their hooves to grip rocky surfaces as they traverse steep slopes in search of food such as grasses, herbs, lichens, buds and leaves. They live in herds of up to 20 individuals led by an alpha male who defends his territory from other males during mating season and can also known for their ability to leap great distances when startled or threatened by predators such as wolves or lynx.
