Alpine Ibex Collection

The Alpine Ibex (Capra ibex) is a species of wild goat found in the mountainous regions of Europe and has a stocky body, short legs, and long horns that curve backwards. The fur is usually grayish-brown in color with lighter patches on the neck and chest. Males are larger than females and have longer horns. They live in herds of up to 20 individuals, which can be seen grazing on grasses, shrubs, lichens, mosses, and herbs. In winter they migrate to lower elevations where food is more abundant, and are agile climbers and can scale steep cliffs with ease using their sharp hooves for traction and are good swimmers and can dive underwater to escape predators such as wolves or lynx. The Alpine Ibex is an important species for maintaining healthy mountain ecosystems by controlling vegetation growth through grazing activity.
