Cotton Stainer (Dysdercus suturellus) is a species of Hemiptera insects in the family Pyrrhocoridae, and is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas, wide range of hosts, including cotton, okra, soybean and other crops. It feeds on plant sap by piercing the plant tissue with its long proboscis. The adult insect is about 8-10 mm long with a reddish-brown body and yellowish legs. Its wings are short but functional for short flights. It lays its eggs on leaves or stems near host plants; after hatching, nymphs feed on sap from the same plants as adults do before they reach adulthood and can cause significant damage to crops due to their feeding habits; however, they can also be beneficial by providing food for some birds and other animals in their natural environment.
