Meadow Brown Collection

Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) is a species of butterfly found in Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia and has a wingspan of about 2.5 inches and is usually brown or orange in color with white spots on the underside. The meadow brown prefers open grasslands, meadows, and other habitats with plenty of flowering plants for nectar. It feeds primarily on nectar from flowers such as thistles and knapweed but will also feed on aphids or other small insects. During the summer months it can be seen flying around during the day in search of food and mates. In autumn it migrates to warmer climates where it hibernates until spring when it returns to its breeding grounds to lay eggs before dying off at the end of summer.
