Leatherjacket Collection

Leatherjacket is a family of fish that includes over 400 species, and are found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, from shallow coral reefs to deep ocean trenches. Leatherjackets have an elongated body with a large head and small eyes. They range in size from 2 inches to over 3 feet long, depending on the species. Their scales are usually brown or black, but some species may be brightly colored or patterned. Leatherjackets feed mainly on small invertebrates such as crustaceans and mollusks, but some larger species may also eat smaller fish, and are important food sources for many other marine animals such as sharks, rays, sea turtles and seabirds. Leatherjackets play an important role in maintaining healthy coral reef ecosystems by controlling populations of their prey items and providing food for predators higher up the food chain.
