Sand Hopper Collection

Sand Hoppers, also known as Talitridae, are small crustaceans that live in sandy beaches and dunes. They have two antennae on their head and three pairs of legs. Their bodies are covered with a hard exoskeleton that helps protect them from predators. They feed on algae, diatoms, and other organic matter found in the sand and can jump up to 30 cm when disturbed or threatened by predators such as birds or crabs. They reproduce by laying eggs which hatch into larvae that then develop into adults over several weeks. Sand Hoppers play an important role in the beach ecosystem by aerating the sand and providing food for other animals such as shorebirds. In addition, they help keep beaches clean by consuming organic debris before it washes away into the ocean.
