Canvasback Collection

Canvasback is a species of duck found in North America, and is the largest diving duck in the region and has a distinctive white back and chestnut-brown head. The male has a black bill, while the female's bill is grayish-brown. Canvasbacks feed mainly on aquatic plants, but also consume insects, mollusks, crustaceans, and fish, and are highly social birds that form large flocks during migration and wintering periods. During breeding season they nest near wetlands or shallow lakes with plenty of vegetation to provide cover from predators, and are hunted for sport as well as for their meat which is considered a delicacy by some people. Conservation efforts have helped to stabilize their population numbers over the past few decades but they remain vulnerable due to habitat loss and degradation caused by human activities such as pollution and development.
