Anhinga Collection

Anhinga, also known as the darter, is a species of Suliformes bird in the family Anhingidae, and are found in warm climates and can be seen near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, swamps and marshes. Anhingas have long necks and pointed bills that they use to spear their prey underwater. They have webbed feet which help them swim but make it difficult for them to take off from the water so they must climb onto a branch or other object before taking flight. Their wings are long and narrow with sharp points at the tips which helps them soar through the air with ease, and are usually black or dark brown in color with white patches on their wings and tail feathers. They feed mainly on fish but will also eat amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and insects when available.
