Yellow Billed Stork Collection

The Yellow-billed Stork is a large wading bird native to Africa and the Indian subcontinent and has a long, yellow bill and black legs. Its wingspan can reach up to 6 feet (1.8 m) and its body length can range from 3–4 feet (0.9–1.2 m). The Yellow-billed Stork feeds on fish, frogs, insects, small mammals, reptiles and other aquatic life in shallow waters or wetlands, and is often seen standing in water with its neck stretched out searching for food or perched atop trees near water bodies waiting for prey to pass by below them. During breeding season they build large stick nests in trees near water sources which they use to raise their young until they are ready to fledge the nest at around 8 weeks of age. The Yellow-billed Stork is an important species as it helps keep aquatic ecosystems healthy by controlling populations of small animals such as frogs that would otherwise become overpopulated if left unchecked by predators like the storks.
