Atlantic Petrel Collection

The Atlantic Petrel is a seabird belonging to the petrel family, and is found in the North Atlantic Ocean and breeds on islands off the coasts of Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Scotland. The bird has a black head with white cheeks and an orange-brown body with white underparts. Its wings are long and pointed, allowing it to soar over long distances in search of food. Its diet consists mainly of fish, squid and crustaceans which it catches by diving into the ocean from heights up to 30 meters. The Atlantic Petrel nests in burrows or crevices on rocky cliffs or beaches where it lays one egg at a time which both parents take turns incubating for about 45 days before hatching. This species is considered vulnerable due to its small population size as well as threats posed by fishing activities, pollution and climate change.
