Sooty Albatross Collection

The Sooty Albatross is a species of seabird found in the southern hemisphere and has a wingspan of up to 2 meters and is easily recognizable by its dark gray-brown plumage and can be found in the open ocean, often near land, and feeds mainly on fish, squid and crustaceans. The Sooty Albatross is an endangered species due to longline fishing practices that cause accidental bycatch. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species from further decline. The Sooty Albatross nests on islands off the coasts of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Chile where it breeds annually between October and March. During this time they form large colonies where they lay one egg per season which takes around 65 days to hatch. This species has been recorded living up to 40 years in the wild making them one of the longest living birds in existence today.
