Its plumage is mainly white with light gray on its back, wings, and tail and has a black bill with yellow at the base and yellow feet. The Light-Mantled Albatross feeds mainly on squid, fish, and krill which it catches by surface feeding or plunge diving from heights of up to 30 meters above the ocean's surface. It breeds on islands off New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia where it nests in burrows or crevices among rocks or tussock grasses. During breeding season they form large colonies of several hundred pairs that perform elaborate courtship rituals before mating for life.
