King Penguin Collection

King Penguins are the second largest species of penguin, standing at around 90 cm tall and weighing up to 15 kg. They have a distinctive yellow-orange patch on their neck and chest, as well as a bright orange beak and can be found in the sub-Antarctic regions of the Southern Hemisphere, living in large colonies on islands such as South Georgia and Macquarie Island. They feed mainly on small fish and squid that they catch by diving underwater. King Penguins breed during the summer months, laying one egg which is incubated by both parents for around 55 days before hatching. The chicks are then cared for by their parents until they reach independence at around 10 months old, and are currently listed as vulnerable due to human activities such as fishing, hunting and climate change which have caused their population to decline significantly over recent years.
