Adelie Penguin Collection

The Adelie Penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) is a species of penguin found in Antarctica and the nearby islands, and are small to medium-sized birds, measuring between 48-70 cm in height and weighing 2-6 kg. Adelie Penguins have black heads, white bellies, and a distinctive white ring around each eye. They feed mainly on krill, fish, squid and other crustaceans found in the Southern Ocean. During breeding season they form large colonies on ice-free land near the sea where they build nests from stones or mud. The female lays two eggs which are incubated by both parents for about 32 days before hatching. After hatching, chicks remain with their parents for several weeks until they are ready to fledge and go out to sea on their own. Adelie Penguins face threats from climate change as well as predation by leopard seals and killer whales but their population remains stable overall due to conservation efforts such as habitat protection measures put in place by governments around the world.
