The Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) is a species of wren that is native to the eastern and southeastern United States, and is a small, brown-and-white bird with a long tail and short wings and has a loud, distinctive song that can be heard throughout its range. The Carolina Wren inhabits woodlands, gardens, parks, and other areas with dense vegetation. Its diet consists mainly of insects and spiders but it will also eat berries and seeds when available. The Carolina Wren builds its nest in cavities or on ledges in trees or buildings. This species is highly adaptable to human presence and can often be seen foraging around houses or yards for food scraps or insects attracted by lights at night, and is an important part of the ecosystem as it helps to control insect populations while providing food for other animals such as snakes, hawks, owls, raccoons, skunks and foxes.
